Why a trustee of WFCN

As one of the founders of the Wyre and Fylde Community Network, I am committed to developing a strong and thriving network for the voluntary, community, faith and charity sectors in Wyre and Fylde

What you hope to bring to the role

I bring to the role of Trustee, my knowledge, experience and expertise in strategic and operational management, finance and organisational skills as well as a working understanding of the issues facing the VCF and charity sectors in Wyre and Fylde

Something interesting you might not know about me

At the age of 40, I gained my motorbike licence and was the proud owner of a Kawasaki ZZR 600 motorbike

Why a trustee of WFCN
I have been involved with Community groups since retiring from teaching and this has led to roles such as Chair of the Stronger Communities theme group on Wyre Strategic Partnership, then Wyre Together and as a trustee for CVS. I am committed to the new Wyre and Fylde Community Network and believe it will be a valuable asset for all our members.

What you hope to bring to the role
I feel that knowledge and experience gained through my working with the varied Community and Voluntary organisations over the last thirteen years will help the essential networking and co-operation between our groups to continue and flourish.

Something interested you wouldn’t normally know about me
As a retired teacher of Geography I am always eager to learn about ways of life in different parts of the world. On a recent visit to Vietnam I was persuaded to ride a water buffalo bareback around a flooded rice paddi field.

Why a trustee of WFCN
Through sharing knowledge and good practice, individuals and community organisations throughout Wyre and Fylde will be able to flourish.
My recent experience of developing a community network in another local authority area has shown me what can be achieved.

What you hope to bring to the role
Experience of trusteeship of a similar organisation.

Something interested you wouldn’t normally know about me
I permanently foster unwanted poultry, currently including a homeless turkey which just appeared one day - it WILL make it past Christmas!

Why a trustee of WFCN
I am a firm believer of the need for Voluntary Groups to play a major part in the life of the local community.I think I can play a part in facilitating that role.

What you hope to bring to the role
I hope to assist in providing opportunities for voluntary groups to network with each other.
I think there is a real need for a strong link between the statutory bodies and the voluntary sector.
I intend to use my lengthy experience in social care to identify needs in the Fylde Community.
I will assist the group to retain its focus.

I’ve seen how well people can work together to support people in their Community and very much want to support this new venture.

What you hope to bring to the role
I have worked for many years in the Voluntary Sector and hope to be able to share some of my experiences and ideas for moving forward and developing the Network.

Something interested you wouldn’t normally know about me
During my time at senior school I was on Opportunity Knocks with the school choir and we lost to a trumpet playing dog!
